High Street, De La War Road, Chantry Land and Bell Hill Traffic!!!

Traffic

The volume, weight and speed of traffic on High Street, De La Warr Road, Chantry Lane and Belle Hill is becoming more and more of a problem, not least because Sat Nav systems appear to be diverting drivers off the bypass and through the Old Town as a rat run (ironic when the King Offa Way was built to do the exact opposite!) We have been lobbying our MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, East Sussex County Council and Sussex Police for enforcement of the weight restriction on High Street through the use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, but so far without success. Many of us – including our member and supporter, Councillor Polly Gray – believe a 20mph speed limit throughout this area and the wider town would also make sense. We plan to organise a Community Speedwatch (CSW) in the future and will be asking for volunteers when we have a date.
