Helen Enock - Chairman

Helen is a journalist and author (under her professional name of Helen Chislett) and runs her own online arts consultancy. She has organised many charity initiatives, including most recently for The King’s Foundation. She and her husband, John, have lived in the Old Town since 2007.

Richard Beaden – Vice Chairman

Richard was born in Uganda but grew up in Bexhill Old Town and was educated locally. A bricklayer by trade, he has worked in both the UK and Africa, where he worked with remote communities to build schools. He inherited the Lordship of the Manor of Bexhill from his father, Tony, and once again lives in the heart of the Old Town.

Paul Adams - Conservation Officer

Paul has lived in Bexhill for nearly 40 years but only moved to the Old Town itself in 2022. A chartered town planner, he worked for Hastings Council for much of his career including on regeneration of the town centre and, more latterly, wider economic development projects which encompassed the Rother area as well

Edmund Bird - Trustee

Edmund has been a town planner and conservation officer for nearly 40 years working for the City of Bristol, London boroughs of Lambeth and Camden and for the last 20 years at Transport for London and the Greater London Authority. He moved to Bexhill Old Town in 2024.

Matthew Penny – Trustee

Matthew is a retired Civil Servant who worked in the Department of Employment, Education & Work & Pensions. Having lived in London, Sheffield and Runcorn, he settled in the Battle and Bexhill area twenty years ago.

Since his retirement, he has volunteered extensively in the charity sector including Oxfam shops, Hailsham Pavilion and Bexhill Community Bus - first as a driver and eventually as Managing Director. He was also previously a BOTPS Trustee, so we are delighted he has agreed to return to the Board again.

For the last three years, he has worked at the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne, firstly as a volunteer and for the last couple of years as a paid member of FOH staff dealing with public visitors and gallery invigilating.

Fleur Huggins – Office Manager

Fleur has been an Office Manager/Bookkeeper for over 30 years. She comes to us with a new perspective and hopes to make a valuable contribution to preserving Bexhill Old Town.
