The Old Town in Bloom

Hanging Baskets

Once again the hanging baskets in the Old Town looked beautiful during the spring and summer months of last year. Both sets of judges representing South and South East in Bloom and Britain in Bloom commented very positively on them.

Manor Gardens

As many of you will know, because of RDC budget cuts the hours that long-serving Head Gardener, Michael Cranfield, can spend working on the Manor Gardens have been drastically reduced. This is particularly sad given that Mike was awarded a personal dedication accolade only last autumn at the 2024 BALI National Landscape Awards to mark his significant contribution to the Manor Gardens over the years – not the first time he has been honoured by this prestigious event. The awards celebrate outstanding achievements of the landscaping industry across the UK and the judges who came to Bexhill said they were “blown away” by what Mike had achieved.

Like many of you, the Society is concerned how the gardens will be maintained with Mike there only a fraction of the time compared to previous. We are in consultation with the respective bodies and will report back to you when we know more.
